STATEMENT

(EN)

My painting explores the place of the body and the image in visual environments shaped by screens, reflections and interfaces. In a world saturated with images, perception often becomes indirect: a person can be visible yet remain at a distance, present yet partially absent. This tension between proximity and separation lies at the heart of my work.

I paint mainly in oil, a medium of matter, touch and duration, to give form to immaterial images. My paintings begin with fragments of everyday life: reflections in windows and doors, urban surfaces, screenshots of remote communication, images gleaned from second-hand platforms such as Leboncoin. Often framed by interface-like shapes, they show how much our experiences are now mediated.

This distance is not only theoretical. Living far from my family and communicating through screens has led me to question what these images really show of the people they depict.

Through layering, erasure and translucent veils, I give pictorial presence to these unstable realities. The figures, blurred, fragmented or partially erased, move through ambiguous spaces between real and virtual, intimate and public. These alterations are not merely formal: they convey the losses, distortions and emotional distances of contemporary exchanges. I work with nuances of grey and blue, the contrast between blur and sharpness, the relationship between light and matter.

Painting is also conceived in space. A small mirror, a shop window, a trailer, a door in a metro station: these devices place the gaze at a distance, and it never reaches the whole directly.

What remains of presence in the age of constant mediation? How can we perceive, feel and inhabit a world where the image tends to precede experience?
