Interfaces

Interfaces are omnipresent in cities. They can be the screens we often use or reflective surfaces we encounter in the streets. These interfaces not only create boundaries and connections between different spaces but also serve as image carriers. Inspired by these phenomena, the artist has created three series of paintings that explore the interplay of reflection. The works depict passersby walking through the bustling neighborhoods and metro stations of three French cities: Nantes, Marseille, and Paris. The structure of the exhibition takes inspiration from Hans Memling’s Shrine of Saint Ursula.

What happens when three completely different mirrors connect within a three-dimensional space? Can a new, parallel world emerge? And can the exhibition of these works at SUPER Gallery establish a fresh connection with its transient audience?

The artist’s work stems from questioning the authenticity of images in the information age, the absence of physical contact, and the geographical distance from their family. Painting becomes a medium to explore interaction and make the imperceptible elements of our daily lives visible. By combining reflections from three urban contexts and presenting them in dialogue, the exhibition invites the audience to immerse themselves in a contemplative experience.

Installation of paintings at SUPER Gallery, Parvis Neptune, Nantes, 2024. Funded by Culture-ActionS of CROUS Pays de la Loire.
